Interior design and finishing in Utawala

Utawala is one of the biggest new apartment zones in Nairobi, with blocks spreading from Astrol through Mihango and Benedicta towards Shooters along the Eastern Bypass. Most units are 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments bought by young professionals, airline crews working from JKIA, and landlords letting to them. They arrive plain — white walls, basic tiles, a simple kitchen — and our job is to make them feel finished without overspending.

The most common requests here are compact-living packages: paint with one feature wall, blackout blinds or curtains for bedrooms, a flat ceiling with LED strip lighting in the living room, a wall-mounted TV unit, and wardrobes that make the most of smaller bedrooms. For landlords we run a standard refresh spec between tenancies — repaint, deep-clean touch-ups, blind repairs — priced per unit so it is easy to budget.

Utawala's dusty conditions off the bypass shape our recommendations: washable matte paints, roller or zebra blinds that wipe clean, easy-care rugs, and sealed PVC ceilings in kitchens. We also fit the extra sockets, water heaters and instant-shower plumbing many units are missing.
